If you’re unsure if it’s time to refinish your floors, follow these steps to determine the immediacy of a complete refinishing job: Pour a tablespoon of water on a high-traffic section of your floor. If the water appears to bead or slowly soak in, your floor is properly sealed and just needs routine maintenance, like cleaning or polishing, to restore its shine. However, if the water instantly soaks in, then your floor needs immediate refinishing as this indicates that the wood fibers are likely damaged and already exposed due to poor sealing.

Keep in mind that if your floor is warped, stained or otherwise damaged, Oakland Wood Floors will repair these flaws prior to refinishing your wood floors.

If you choose a wood floor stain remember: Hardwood floor stain also gets absorbed by the wood unevenly. Because of the density of some wood or the density of the wood grain, you may expect minor imperfections in some areas. Also, remember darker you go in the color of the wood stain, the greater the chance that you'll see the imperfections of the wood floors.
